Beirut enters Guiness for World’s biggest human letter

Beirut just entered the Guiness Book for the world’s biggest human letter in an event organized by Beirut Celebrations.

The choice fell on the letter U for Unity and the younger generations were the principle actors as the Christian and Muslim Scouts of Lebanon held hands to form the U shape around Martyr’s square.

This event is one of many organized and will be followed by a coastal human chain next Sunday spanning the entire Lebanese coastline from Tripoli to Tyre.

While some may judge these ideas as cliché and ask for concrete governmental change instead of emotional gatherings, these symbols remain as a vital reminder of all what we have left, our unity as people, in times where we find ourselves bombarded by forces tearing us all apart.

Asking for concrete governmental change can occur through emotional gatherings. People should mobilize not just to get into the Guinness book of records… We should look into the Darwin Awards…

That’s a beautiful idea. Maybe it is not a concrete political move but it is good for the country’s soul nonetheless.
